Dr. Benjamin Demah Nuertey is a distinguished public health physician, health systems specialist, and Fellow of the West African College of Physicians with over 16 years of experience in clinical medicine, public health leadership, health policy, and health insurance governance. He has served on the Board of Directors of Vitality Mutual Health Insurance since 2012 and has chaired the Medical and Technical Subcommittee since 2018, providing strategic oversight on healthcare quality, clinical governance, benefit design, and policy development.

Dr. Nuertey currently serves as a Technical Officer for Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) at the World Health Organization (WHO) Ghana Country Office, where he supports national programs on cancer control, chronic disease prevention, health systems strengthening, and disease surveillance. He has played a key role in advancing Ghana’s national response to NCDs, including the implementation of the country’s first nationwide WHO STEPwise NCD survey, the development of national cancer strategies, and the integration of hypertension and diabetes services into existing healthcare platforms.

His extensive career spans leadership positions in public health, infectious disease control, emergency response, and health research. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he led case management and response efforts at the Tamale Infectious Disease Treatment Centre and coordinated multidisciplinary teams responsible for patient care and outbreak management. He also served as Project Coordinator for Ghana’s Antimicrobial Resistance Multi-Partner Trust Fund Programme, leading national and multisectoral initiatives to combat antimicrobial resistance.

Dr. Nuertey holds degrees in Medicine, Public Health, and Leadership and Development, and is widely recognized for his contributions to research, with numerous peer-reviewed publications in public health, communicable diseases, maternal and child health, and non-communicable diseases. He also serves as a part-time lecturer at the University of Ghana Medical School and as an Academic Editor and reviewer for several international scientific journals.
